Question: Smoking!.!.!.!.!. /cancer !?
what are the odds of developing cancer/smoked ~3 pack years!?
can you please tell me
whats the realistic odds of developing cancer for someone who
starts cigarette smoking at 18
smokes for 8!.5 years and quits for 1 year completely
then again smokes for 6 months and quits finally at 28
smoking @ 5-8 cig/day(averaging to 6)Www@Answer-Health@Com

No one in the world has data for the specific case you present!.
A Canadian epidemiology study I like to quote (since this question comes up often) indicates the risk of lung cancer in non-smokers to be 1 in 77!. The risk for people who have smoked for many years is estimated at 1 in 6 for men and 1 in 9 for women!.
With the limited smoking history you have, your risk should be closer to the 1 in 77 chance of a non-smoker - maybe 1 in 60 or 70 just guessing!.
Once you reach age 48 with 20 years of nonsmoking behind you, your chances should be even better of avoiding lung cancer!.

Male smokers - lifetime risk of lung cancer is 1 in 6
Female smokers
