Is the sun really to blame for skin cancer?!

Question: Is the sun really to blame for skin cancer!?
I'm just wondering!.!.!.now that the media and doctors have the whole of society afraid to even get 3 minutes of sun exposure because it could cause skin cancer, how can we be certain it's directly related to the sun!?

I do realize that the radiation can alter the skins cells which leads to cancer, but what about the borage of chemicals we put on our skin DAILY, that have also been shown to cause cancer!? Lotion, soap, detergents, fake tan lotion, sun screen, perfumes, pollution, things we ingest, etc!.!.!.all of these contain harmful ingredients known to cause cancer!. (parabens, tocopherol (synthetic vitamin E), preservatives!.!.!.!.)

So, why is everyone jumping all over pointing the finger at the sun!? If I'm not mistaken, don't we need a bit of sunlight to absorb vitamin D!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Now THERE's an interesting question - I can certainly see why you'd wonder!
I mean, have skin cancer rates gone up or down since everybody started to fear the sun!?
I've actually heard doctors here in the US blame 'holes in the ozone layer' for increased skin cancer - except the holes in the ozone layer are A) over the poles, where we do not live, and B) we don't even know if they are normal or not! They've been there ever since we had the technology and desire to detect the integrity of the ozone layer!
Vitamin D is one of the most important vitamins for health - we don't use sunlight to absorb it, sunlight actually creates it within our skin!. Vitamin D is not actually a vitamin, it's a hormone, and it is a catalyst for nearly every body process - including the immune system and supporting your body's ability to say, fight off cancer!.
In reality, our bodies have cancer cells all the time!. Whether we actually get cancer or not has more to do with our immune system's ability to destroy the errant cells than anything else!. So, yes, our National Fear of the sun, and slathering on sunscreen, which impedes our bodies' ability to produce and use vitamin D, puts us at higher risk for cancer of all kinds!.
Isn't it interesting how we have all these theories, and cling to them, in the face of all information to the contrary!? Like the cholesterol theory of heart disease, or the germ theory of illness!? Why do we love our theories more than we love the truth!?

Two years ago I got sick with mono, but for months it wouldn't go away - I was weak, fatigued, slept all the time!. I went to three doctors before somebody decided to test my vitamin D, which was about half the minimum necessary for good health!. Now I take cod liver oil every day!. I've been doing it for a year, and it's still pretty tough - I have good days and bad days!. I am taking roughly six times the normal dose of cod liver oil, and still barely able to keep my warehouse in working order (vitamin D is stored in fat tissues)!. It was a great excuse to take up nude sunbathing - but that's not a good idea in the winter!.

It's been a fascinating journey - for many months before I started taking the CLO, I was falling on a pretty regular basis!. Now, I was only 38 at the time, so it's not like I'm an old lady! But this was causing some problems for me - interestingly enough, I haven't fallen all winter (knock wood), and I live in a place where it snows six months of the year, and there has been ice and snow on the ground for many months already!.

Anyhow, I'm with you - I think we could trace our increase in cancer back to poor diets and the falling levels of nutrition in food, processed and fake foods, an increase in the consumption of fake fats, and a decrease in the consumption of real fats, and the toxins we all consume or are exposed to on a daily basis - from toothpaste to "anti-bacterial" soaps and gels to medications to cleaning chemicals to what passes for "food" these days to (especially!!!) fake sugar!.

Well, gotta go - I need to make my son a birthday cake - with real sugar, real butter, and real eggs!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

We do need a bit of sunlight to absorb vitamin D!.
Some sunlight is good!.
3 minutes of sun exposure - as you say - is perfectly OK!.
30 minutes is usually OK too!.
3 hours may be OK if it isn't around noon near the equator!.

Excessive sunlight clearly increases UV damage and skin cancer risk!.
The data is epidemiological!.
People may choose to ignore the risk!.
Riding in cars is risky too!.
People who are health conscious want to know the risks, so doctors provide the data!.
What each person does with the information is his or her choice!.

I like to get a tan, and I'm a cancer doctor!.
I'm willing to take some risk, but I don't tan excessively!.

About a million people in the U!.S!. are diagnosed with non-melanoma skin cancers each year!. Almost all are cured with surgery!.

About 63,000 people develop melanoma skin cancers which are much more serious and lead to roughly 8400 deaths in the USA each year!.
There are more than 565,000 cancer deaths each year in the U!.S!.
- - out of 1,437,000 cancer cases in the U!.S!. last year!.
You can see that skin cancer risks are small in number compared with the entirety of cancers we face in the U!.S!. and elsewhere in the world!.

67 people die from other types of cancer for each person who dies from a skin cancer!. I'll accept the small risk of moderate sunlight myself!.
I ride in cars too!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's the ultraviolet rays that are damaging!. That is why we stress using a strong sunscreen!. You still get the benefits but lessen the damage!. Lot of things contribute to cancer!. The sun being one of them!. We spend a lot of time in the sun every summer!. We golf 4-5hrs a day at least 3 days a week!. But we ALWAYS us a sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You have never heard of getting cancer from the Moon have you!?

It is the ultra-violet light that causes cancer!.

It is your life!.!.!.do with it as you please!. Don't cry to anyone if you get skin cancer because you seem to be pretty knowledgeable about it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

yes, obviously!.!.!. sun screens are the CAUSE of skin cancer!.
none of those things cause SKIN cancer, but they COULD cause other cancers!. skin cancer is caused by UV radiation!. thats it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

In 1930, 1 in 1500 Americans got skin cancer - today it is 1 in 58!Www@Answer-Health@Com
