genearlly the way they treat gallstones is to remove your gallbladder!. That may sound scary but its really a very routine procedure which they can do laproscopically now days (3 very very small holes)!. Its a procedure which every surgeon has to do hundreds of times and the procedure itself probably takes about 20 minutes!.

Assuming they are doing it laproscopically first they will take you back to the operating room and the anesthesiologist will give you an IV and an oxygen mask and then put you to sleep!. Once you are sedated the surgeon will make a small incision in your bellybutton (so as to hide the scar)!. They will then pump CO2 into your abdomen in order to give the little cameras some space!. Once there is some room they will poke another small hole on your right side for the cutting instrument to go in!.

The surgeon will use the camera to locate your gallbladder and the arteries and veins which supply it!. They will then clamp the cystic artery (the one to teh gallbladder) 6 or 7 times with little metal clips to prevent bleeding and then cut the artery!. They will then move to the cystic duct (path for bile from gallbladder to intestines) and do the same thing (clip then cut), once this is done they will use a cauterizer (another attachment to the cutting intsturment) to carefully remove the gallbladder from the abdomenal wall!. At this point it will be free, they will pull it out, put it in a jar, let the c02 out of you, and then sew you up!Www@Answer-Health@Com

This site is very easy to understand and it
was wrote by a doctor!.
On the first page, it will tell you about
the non surgical things they do and also
what causes gallstones and then testing done!.
On the second page, it will tell you about
the surgery to remove the gallbladder itself and where the incisions are located and how it is preformed!.

Under the liver, there is a biliary area!.
The bile flows from the liver to the gallbladder
to be stored there until we eat!. When we eat
the gallbladder contracts and pushes this
bile back out into the tube like structures,
known as ducts, to the intestines to help
in the digestion of the fats we eat!.
Anything that may block the flow of bile in
these ducts, whether it be a stone that
has moved in there from the gallbladder or
an infection has occurred!.!.!.can cause the
bile to back up into the liver and cause a
rise in the testing done for the liver itself!.

If there are many stones in the gallbladder,
then they will try to dissolve these stones or
remove the gallbladder itself!. However,
if a stone has developed in the bile duct,
and they don't see any other stones in
the gallbladder!.!.!.they might do a procedure
where they numb the throat, sedate you, and slide a scope through the mouth, into the esophagus, then into the stomach and out to the first part of the intestines to this biliary area and
with instruments!.!. placed through the scope!.!.
either break the stone up or remove it
whole!. This scope has a camera and light
on the end of it!. It is an outpatient procedure
known as ERCP
It is mentioned on the first page of this site,
