Answers:
Although I do not remember anything about the blood transfusion I had 35 years ago, my mother needed several pints of blood over about 6 days recently!. When the nurse came into the room with a unit of blood, she checked the code numbers on the bag of blood, and the names and numbers on my mother's wristbands, several times before giving the blood!. The blood is given by IV!. (My mother was admitted to the hospital due to her bleeding problems!. It sounds like you may not need to be admitted if you need a transfusion, but I am not sure!.)

Yes, a family member can donate blood to be used in your transfusion, as long as the blood types match, and the family member is old enough and healthy enough to donate!. The blood I received by transfusion 35 years ago came from my uncle!.

All donated blood is tested thoroughly for HIV, Hep, and other diseases!. Any blood found to be HIV+ or Hep+ is NOT used!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Family members can donate blood!. If they are the same blood type as yourself, then this can be a directed donation that would only go to you!. They still have to meet the same blood donation criteria as anyone that walks in to donate!.

I have never received a blood transfusion, but rest assured, there is considerable testing done on your blood and that of the donor to ensure that the donated blood is not only safe, but will result in a good product that will help you!. If your doctor decides this is the best choice for you, receiving blood will help boost your hemoglobin (the protein that carries oxygen to your cells)!. One unit of blood should raise your hemoglobin about 1 gram!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
