My 2 year old has autism, what can the future hold?

Just been told my 2 year old son has autism,he cannot speak at the moment, but is very loving, they don't know how bad it will be till he's older a little,me and my wife are devistated. What can we expect for the future,im so scared, will he ever be able to share a room with his brother, how will his quality of life be?can he live on his own? who will look after him when we die?The pedatrician says 5 in a 1000 have autism, is it my fault.or something wrong with me.To talk more add me dirk_diggler33333@yahoo.com im just feel empty at the moment.

Answers:

Dude, get over the greiving. It's not good for you or your kid. Nobody can see the future so there is no point fearing it. Once you move on and accept your son for who he is, autism and all, I promise things will get better. Instead of being just a teacher to your child, you will share equal time being a student and learning a whole new perspective on life. Many parents don't ever get past the greiving and that is the real tragedy - they will miss so much in life. I encourage you to read over the speech given by an autistic adult in the link below - it is specifically addressed to grieving parents like you.

Keep in mind, the sooner you deal, the better it will be. Not enough dads make the effort and the road is certainly less traveled but thinking positive never hurt anybody. Good luck to you - you're in for an incredible journey.
