Sunscreen causes skin cancer?!

Question:

Sunscreen causes skin cancer?

I read several articles that say that the ingredients in sunscreen might actually be carcinogenic because they absorb into the skin and promote free radicals. And apparently ultraviolet rays promote vitamin D which reduces cancer by 77%... So should I wear or not wear sunscreen? Another question is about Neutrogena's new helioplex technology. It stabilizes and combines oxybenzone and avobenzone. Does that mean that these chemicals are now prevented from producing free radicals?

Answers:

With regard to the skin damage and cancer issue: Sun does its damage by producing free radicals. If free radicals are produced when sun blocks are applied to the skin it is likely that it was because the block was inadequate to prevent the problem. Either more sunblock was needed or a stronger one was needed. Helioplex is a potent wide spectrum sunblock that covers all of the UVA range. Until recent years most sunblocks were not very effective in this part of the ultraviolet spectrum. Used with the other sunblocks that protect against UVB radiation you can get full coverage.

Regarding vitamin D, in our society there are multiple dietary sources of this vitamin both natural and through supplementation of foods such as bread and milk.
