Chronic sinusitis for 7 months!?!

Question:

Chronic sinusitis for 7 months!?

I have had a sinus infection since Thanksgiving. I have been on antibiotics 5 times. I am currently on a 6 week dose of augmentim (the strongest antibiotic available for this) and also a nasal steriod spray. Prior to this i have never had any sinus infections. I am 28, and very healthy, never smoke, drink, drugs...I eat healthy and workout almost everyday. I have 2 weeks left on my prescription and if it does not work (i also have an abscess) I will have to have surgery. I know the infection is still here, i feel like crap (headaches, swelling in my cheek, etc) Can anyone give me ANY info on why someone would get an infection so bad like this? I do not even have seasonal allergies and there is no mold in my house. It just so seems so bizare for it to be this extreme.....

Answers:

You may have polyps in your sinus cavities that are causing the infections or something like them. You need to see an ENT doctor and possibly have them removed. It's sometimes called a "roto rooter" job. The doc will enter your sinus cavities with a scope (and vacuum) threw the nose. He/she will suck out all the phlegm/snot and any polyps in there. Its usually an outpatient procedure, so you will be home that night.

Good luck
