I'll assume you are male if you resemble your father!.
Here are the American Cancer Society data for your chances of developing cancers over a normal lifetime - the same as all males in the USA!.

All sites for cancer = 1 in 2
That means that one out of two men will develop some type of cancer at some time in their lives!. More than half of these will not die from that cancer!.

Prostate cancer 1 in 6
Lung cancer 1 in 13 - Roughly 1 in 6 if you smoke and 1 in 77 if you do not!.
Colon cancer 1 in 18
Bladder cancer 1 in 27
Melanoma 1 in 41
Lymphoma 1 in 46
Kidney cancer 1 in 59
Leukemia 1 in 67
Oral Cavity 1 in 71 - higher risk if you smoke
Stomach cancer 1 in 88

At least 31% of all cancer deaths can be directly related to smoking!.
If cancer is your main concern, the best thing to do is never smoke cigarettes!.

You can forget the total body scan every six months!. That is nonsensical!. You cannot screen for 200 plus different types of cancer!. Also, if a doctor examines your eyes and sees papilledema with the ophthalmoscope - an indicator for possible brain malignancy - then you are probably screwed since increased intracranial pressure is a usually a late finding with brain cancers!.

Also, I suspect you are young!. The greatest risk factor for cancers is increasing age!. The longer we live, the greater our risk of developing some type of cancer!.

In 1906 Tuberculosis killed about 200 of us per 100,000 population per year in the U!.S!.
Cancers were number 8 on the "top ten" causes of death list in 1906!.
But the average expected survival at birth for people in 1906 was 46 or 47 years!.
Today, cancers cause deaths in about 184 people per 100,000 population per year, so deaths from all types of cancer are lower now than the death rate from tuberculosis 100 years ago!. People often did not live long enough to get cancer 100 years ago - they died young from infections that are now cured!.

None of the cancers you mention are particularly associated with hereditary transmission to males!. I suspect the family members who died from lung cancer were smokers!.

Note that we all will die of something at some point!. Right now about 23% of us die from malignant diseases!. (2005 data)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Depends on the ages when some of the relatives died!? They say over a certain age, they no longer link it to hereditary (perhaps over 70)!. Naturally if any of the lung cancer victims smoked, than it was not hereditary, smoking causes the lung cancer!. Women have a high risk of breast cancer in general and there are risk factors that can complicate this!. There are many other potential risk factors in other cases as well!. It is true ovarian cancer risk factors or causes are unknown!. Brain cancer risk factors are such as having a job in an oil refinery, as a chemist, embalmer, or rubber-industry OR cancer that has spread from another part of the body often moves into the brain!. It is possible they never knew he had cancer in another part of the body!. But in fact heredity as a cause for brain tumors has not been proven! So I would say you are not necessarily screwed!. But whatever you do, do not smoke, drink excessively, eat a good balanced diet with plenty of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients!. Read up about nutrition and cancer prevention!. They say half of all cancer could be prevented just from diet and sustaining from harmful chemicals and drugs!. Don't work around hazardous materials or inhalants!. Keep your proper weight and stay active, get plenty of exercise!. They even say spirituality, yoga, or meditation can help prevent cancer from keeping a healthy state of mind and conscious!. Positive thinking and a happy lifestyle can also help!. Cancer is a lot more complex than people realize!. You have the power to help yourself and improve your life!. Perhaps you can break the cycle of your family history!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes, you did bring out the nutjobs with this question!.

Spreedog knows whereof he speaks listen to what he says!.

Cancer is rarely hereditary - fewer than 10% of all cases!.

A sign that a cancer MAY be hereditary within a family is when several members of the same side of that family have had the SAME type of cancer, especially if some developed it at a younger than usual age!.

You don't inherit a general tendency to get cancer, and several family members having had different types of cancer - as you have described - isn't hereditary!.

You haven't said how old most of your relatives were at diagnosis; cancer that's diagnosed after the age of 50 is much less likely to be hereditary!.

With at least one in three people getting cancer at some point in their lives, it's not unusual for several members of the same extended family to have non-hereditary cancers!.

Often people think this means cancer 'runs in their family', but this is rarely the case!.

In my own family, two of my grandparents died of cancer!. Both my parents had cancer and my mother died of it!. So did my aunt, my uncle and my cousin!. None of their cancers were hereditary, and no members of my immediate or extended family have ever been considered at increased risk of any of the cancers they had!.

Of my parents' 6 children, now aged between 47 and 60, I am the only one who has developed cancer, and mine too is non-hereditary and unconnected to theirs!.

From the information you've given us, you don't appear to be at any increased risk of cancerWww@Answer-Health@Com

Why waste your life worrying about getting cancer!. Live your life now and don't worry about dying!. If you get it that sucks!. If your don't get Great!. I got Brain Cancer last year!. They told me they can't do anything about it!. I'm not going to sit around and worry about when I am I going to die!. I'm happy I'm still alive and I get to wake up next to my husband and I'm glad I am not doing anymore chemo!. Don't waste your life away!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Actually it all has to deal with how you treat your body, this isn't even a gene that is passed on, if you don't treat your body well, stay active and eat healthy, then a cell could get a mutation and become cancerous, so it is up to you whether or not you get cancer, by the way getting hit in the breast does not give you breast cancer, it is no more than a myth!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

As far as your "chances" you should talk with your doctor!.
Sorry to here that!. Google "Clinical and Preclinical trails of resveratrol on cancer"!. It's a 58 page report done by the M D Anderson Cancer Center!. You can buy the stuff at most health food stores and online at vitamin stores!. the report tells which cancers it works against and then has the technical information for the doctors which explains the different mutations and pathways it works against!.

I was told it corrects dna, it tells the killer cells to recognize the cancer cells and tells them to kill them and it also tell the cancer cells they are abnormal and tells them to kill themselves!. This report is a few years old and much more information online, but it is 58 pages long and explains it where you don't have to be a doctor to understand!.

You can also take it as a preventative against cancer!. For sure always get check ups with the doctor, but look at the information and you can order it!. The Japanese and Chinese have used for a long time and use the root of the knotweed plant and then in the states they say the most potent is the pulp of the muscadine grape and sold at wineries that make that!. Hope this helps and a friend was given 3 months to live and he started taking this stuff and it's been 3 years ago!.

Have a great 2009 and don't take my word for it, check it out for yourself and even take it to the doctor!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

depends if the cancers they had get past on genetically!. You wont get ovarian or breast cancer (assuming you're a guy) if you're uncle/grandpa ever smoked than you dont have to worry about that either, but none of the cancers a consistant, usually if its passed on it will be the same kind of cancerWww@Answer-Health@Com

Wow! That is a very high rate of cancer within your close family!. However it doesn't mean total damnation!. I think the thing with cancer is when it goes untreated so my advice to you is that you keep regular check-ups and always try to stay out of the way of things that may cause cancer!. You might not be totally screwed but you do have the need to stay alert and be careful!. Glad I could help!! =)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Personal Knowledge =)Www@Answer-Health@Com

There are various other factors beyond genetics that can contribute to your chances of getting cancer!. Like, for example, did your uncle that died of lung cancer smoke!? There are various other questions that should be answered to get a full answer!. However, genetics is a large part of it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
