VP Shunt How long do they last? possible not to be using anymore?

I would love to get some opinions from somke doctors on this question or anyone who has knoledge in this area.... when i was young i have a vp shunt.... i think thats what its called i knows its called a shunt. anyways i had it put in when i was one and i am now 20 and havent had anything done to it,...... i have herd from everyone else that has one they they get them replaced/worked on several time a year. so my question is. am i just luck or is it possible that im not even using it.????

i have a shunt in my arm that i used fr dialysis. i have not used it in 5 years but they left it in. if you never used it i would think that it would not make much sense to have it. it depends on why you have it.i would say you are very lucky if you never had to get it worked on or replaced i hope you keep your good luck with it.
