PFO or Atrial Septum Defect?!

Question: PFO or Atrial Septum Defect!?
I had an echocardiogram with bubble study in an ongoing quest to figure out my migraines and it ended up being positive!. Is this 100% indicative of PFO or could it indicate an atrial septum defect instead!? From what I understand, they were unable to see the hole from the echo and the next step is a transesophageal echocardiogram to determine size and exact location!. Just wondering if anyone knows if there is a possibility I may come back with an atrial septum defect diagnosis instead of a PFO confirmation!.

Oh, and if anyone has experience with PFO closure for migraine -- I'd love to hear your experiences!. TIA!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
A PFO is a kind of atrial septum defect!. Depending on the doctor, they may use the two terms for the same kind of defect!. If the bubble study was positive, you probably do have some type of atrial septum defect, most likely a PFO!.
Most PFOs are not able to be seen by a transthoracic echocardiogram!. The doctor looks for bubbles crossing over what should be solid tissue to confirm the presence of a defect!. You will need a transesophageal echocardiogram to see the size, exact location, shape, etc!.
You must have a really good doctor (or not live in the U!.S!.) if they are looking into a PFO being the cause of your migraines! Most doctors don't believe in the correlation, so that's great that you have a good doctor!
I had my PFO closed when I started having strokes and I was pleased that the procedure stopped my migraines too! I haven't had one since! :0) Plus, the procedure was super easy for me!. I was even awake for part of it, but I was so doped up I thought the whole thing was funny!. lol Recovery was a snap and the only part that hurt was the cut they made on my leg and that didn't hurt very much at all!. (I don't see what so many doctors have against the procedure!.)

PFO (patient foramen ovale) is thought to be related to migraine because it allows some unoxygenated blood to flow from the right atrium to the left atrium and to the brain, howver, no concrete prove yet!. Foramen ovale should close by itself soon after birth by for some it didn't!.

Atrial septal defect (ASD) is a hole in the atrial septum connecting the left and right atria of the heart!. Hence, PFO is a kind of ASD!. If the theory for the connection of migrain and PFO holds, it should apply to most ASD as well!. So, don't worry is they said it is an ASD instead!.

Small ASD or PFO closure is done by the same procedure!. A closure device is guided to the heart through your large vessels such as femoral artery and vein with minimal pain or discomfort!. Larger ASD may need open surgery for closure, I really doubt that you need it, don't worry!. Before a procedure is considered feasible and necessary, be patient and let your doctors do the investigations first!. Relax and God bless!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You may want to read this book:
God's Medicine Is Best by Linda Wise, it is a natural medicine manual and it will show you how to use some home remedies for 'heart' situations!.!.!.as for the migraine it might go away as soon they close the vsd, because the blood is mixing via the hole !.!.you get headache!.!.I did hear about the pfo, I had migraines--don't remember now--but one side of my head was giving me horrible pain and I was suggested to have it done!. Turned out later I didn't need it!.
