What are the first signs of being anaemic ?!

Question: What are the first signs of being anaemic !?
Thanks for your answers :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Anemia goes undetected in many people, and symptoms can be small and vague!. Most commonly, people with anemia report a feeling of weakness or fatigue in general or during exercise, general malaise and sometimes poor concentration!. People with more severe anemia often report dyspnea (shortness of breath) on exertion!. Very severe anemia prompts the body to compensate by increasing cardiac output, leading to palpitations and sweatiness, and to heart failure!.

Pallor (pale skin, mucosal linings and nail beds) is often a useful diagnostic sign in moderate or severe anemia, but it is not always apparent!. Other useful signs are cheilosis and koilonychia!.

Pica, the consumption of non-food based items such as dirt, paper, wax, grass, ice, and hair, may be a symptom of iron deficiency, although it occurs often in those who have normal levels of hemoglobin!.

Chronic anemia may result in behavioral disturbances in children as a direct result of impaired neurological development in infants, and reduced scholastic performance in children of school age!.

Anaemia caused by iron deficiency affects up to 18 per cent of all women in the UK!.
Read the second part of our guide to discover the symptoms of anaemia and how you can cure it!.
How can I spot it!?
The first signs of anaemia are feeling tired all the time without any identifiable reason i!.e!. you are not recovering from an illness!.
You will also suffer from heart palpitations as your heart works harder to pump the extra oxygen-carrying blood needed around your body!. If you are suffering from severe anaemia, you could also experience chest pains - known as angina - headaches and leg pains!.
You may also have heavy periods which cause the iron levels in your body to drop!.
In long term iron deficiency, you may notice some other symptoms!. These include a smooth and/or burning tongue, pale nail beds, mouth ulcers and hair loss!. An iron deficiency can also impair your immune system, making you more susceptible to illnesses and infections!.
There is also some evidence that anaemia is linked to poor cognitive performance, so you may find it harder to concentrate at work or feel like you are losing your memory!.
Professor Tom Sanders, an expert in nutrition and dietetics for Kings College University in London, has devised a quick quiz for femail readers to find out if they could be anaemic:
1!. Do you feel tired, even on waking!?
2!. Can you feel your heartbeat speeding up!?
3!. Do you have heavy periods!?
4!. Do you avoid eating red meat!? or Are you a vegetarian!?
5!. Do you think you could be pregnant!?
6!. Are you generally feeling washed out!?

If the answer is yes to all the questions, make an appointment with your doctor to get the condition diagnosed!. Even if you only answer yes to four questions, it may be worth seeing your doctor just to check there are no underlying health problems!.
Seeing your doctor
Luckily anaemia is very easy to diagnose!. Your doctor will take a blood sample from you to check for levels of haemoglobin in your blood!.
Haemoglobin is the red oxygen-carrying protein in the blood cells!. In normal healthy women, the levels are 12 grams per 100 mls of blood, but most hospitals say 11!.5 grams is also a healthy rating!.
Depending on how low your levels are your doctor will decide what course of treatment you need!.
You may be able to correct your anaemia through diet alone but you may also need to take iron supplements!.
How can it be treated!?
The first method of treating anaemia is through diet!. Rich sources of iron include liver, beef, lamb and venison!. Other sources which contain some iron, but are not as rich as red meats, include chicken, eggs and some fortified breads and cereals!.
If you are vegetarian, obviously you will not want to eat meat to boost your iron intakes!. But iron from vegetable sources, such as green leafy vegetables, dried fruits and pulses, are not as easily absorbed as the iron in meat!. For this reason you should take some vitamin C, like a glass of orange juice, with your meal to help your body convert vegetable iron into a
Beef is rich in iron
more easily absorbable form!.
The second method of treating anaemia is with iron supplements!. The daily recommended amount is between eight to 14mg for women!.
Professor Sanders says, 'Unfortunately some iron supplements have some unpleasant side effects, like black stools, but they do come in a variety of formulations so it is worth trying to find one you are comfortable with!.'
Angela Dowden, femail!.co!.uk's expert nutritionist recommends Spatone Iron Plus, a Welsh iron-rich spa water sold in packets that is relatively free from side effects!. The supplement is available from all good High Street chemists and health food stores!.
If your anaemia is due to an intestinal problem, such as Coeliac Disease, then treating the problem should also cure the anaemia!. This is why it is important to get your anaemia diagnosed as it could be a symptom of an underlying problem!.
