Pernicious Anemia Help please..?!

Question:

Pernicious Anemia Help please..?

I have been diagnosed with Pernicious Anemia and I do not have insurance and cannot afford to visit a doc or let alone get the shots. Will taking Methylcobalamin with folic acid help and what dosage would be too much? Thanks!

Answers:

If you have true pernicious anemia and not just a B12 deficiency then no amount of ingested B12 will help you.

B12 has to attach to intrinsic factor in your stomach so it can be absorbed into your body for use. People with pernicious anemia are lacking the intrinsic factor due to their body making antibodies against it.

If you are just B12 deficient because you are not absorbing enough then yes taking B12 vitamin orally can help. If I were you I would find the money to get topped up with injections by a doctor and then try to maintain your levels with vitamin B12 in pill form.

I am a B12 deficient person who selectively absorbs B12 and I can usually maintain for a few years before having to get topped up again by injections. I find the injections work better than the subligual form of B12. I take 50 ug (that is micrograms) daily in my B-complex vitamin. The body only absorbs 5 ug a day so that should be plenty to get the minimum to maintain.

Good luck to you
