Know of anyone with fifth disease? What is it?

Our older children had fifth disease (also known as slap cheek) when my wife was pregnant with out youngest child. It had a very mild impact on our children, but was pretty scary for my wife and our unborn baby. Fetuses can be very heavily impacted by it (it impacts their heart). My wife tested positive for the recent antibody, indicating that she had contracted it recently. So she had to have regular high-precision ultrasound tests done to check the baby's blood flow. (They can do that nowadays!)
As it turned out, although the baby's blood flow was depressed for a short while, he rebounded nicely and turned out fine. If the test results had gotten worse, there were several, generally more invasive, treatment options to consider.
