What type of illness could she have?!

Question:

What type of illness could she have?

My 2 year old became sick last night. She was running a fever of about 104 degrees. We gave her Children's Tylenol around 1:30 am but it only brought down the fever one degree. This morning when we tried to give her another dosage, she suddenly vomited. Pretty much everything she ate yesterday came out. But after vomiting she seemed slightly better, less fussier and was willing to take a lukewarm bath. After the bath, she slept for 4 hours. We gave her more Tylenol. About 2 hours ago, her temperature finally came down to 100 and she acts more happy. So what could've caused her fever? She showed no signs of having a cold; just a fever and the vomiting episode this morning and some diarrhea. Yesterday the only time she went out was around 6:30 pm to a nearby park with her dad but she didn't have contact with anybody there. Her dad is fine. Could it be from heat (we live in Phoenix) or food poisoning?

Answers:

Kids get sick. You did the right thing and she sounds like she is on the road to recovery already.. If she had continued to vomit with the fever you could get tylenol suppositories at the pharmacy. You have to ask for them but they are not prescription.

Fevers are the body's way of ridding itself of toxins but a high temp that does not respond to treatment with Tylenol or Motrin needs to be addressed by your child's pediatrician.

As adults we have been exposed to many, many different bugs/germs in our lifetimes. Things that will knock a little child out won't bother us at all.

Also, sips of liquids to begin with, crackers like saltines if the liquids stay down. Avoid red juices as when anyone vomits something that is red automatically we think "blood". Not allowing red foods will determine this easier.

By the way, any new teeth?
