Just Diagnosed with Herpes...Help?

So I am experiencing my first outbreak. I'm freaking out a bit. Any useful advise is much needed. I'm sort of an emmotional wreck right now. Started on meds yesterday and throughout today the outbreak has gotten much worse. I am a runner and so that's not an option for a few days. Too painful...so there goes my stress relief. How long do outbreaks last. The frustration is that I have no idea when I came in contact with H and not sure who I have to thank for my luck. Please help with any advise.

I'm sorry to hear about it. I have had herpes for 8 years and my first outbreak lasted around 2 weeks. As time passes by it gets alot easier to deal with. Some people I know get their first outbreak really bad and then never see it again for the rest of their lives. Others get it more frequently, it really all depends on your body. The meds will definately help, I like valtrex best although I have tried acycloveir. They're are also vitamins you can takelike l-lysine (stay away from arganine), foods you should avoid, exposure to the sun, stress, sleep deprivation, and make sure you get plenty of exercise. You just basically want to keep a strong immune system. In the beginning everything triggered it for me but now I rarely even feel like I am even about getting it and I rarely take the meds anymore. As your body gets used to it you will have less and less outbreaks. One day you may never get one again, it happens. Anyway it sounds like you are taking the right steps.
