I have a UC flare. My doc is MIA should I switch doctors or wait for a reply?!

Question: I have a UC flare. My doc is MIA should I switch doctors or wait for a reply?
I've had Ulcerative Colitis since December 2009 and after the initial diagnosis and treatment I went into remission. Two weeks ago I started flaring and it won't stop. My doctor wants to put me on steroids but I refused and since I refused I haven't heard a word from my doctor since. Should I switch doctors (who will most likely want a colonoscopy) or should I continue to wait for my doctor's reply?

Answers:

Usually if a doctor requests a patient to take steroids, then the flare may be out of control. There is a point where you can't stop a flare with regular medications.
Call your doctor and ask about enemas, if he says that it is an option, than take it. It may or may not reduce your flare. If it doesn't, you really don't have any other choice rather than to take steroids.
Steroids really do help, but there is side affects, just like every other medication a doctor gives you. If it is your only option, take it. You don't want to have it excel into a life threatening situation.
Steroids like prednisone, can be administered in very small doses, and a little goes a long way.
Its better to take a small account of steroids than to wind up on remicade (that stuff is brutal).

All in all, ask your doctor about enemas. It works for some people.

Diagnosef with UC at 17. Hospitalized and put on steroids a few times because of UC.

The doctors are important for testing, diagnosis, routine blood work, but for treatment, all MD's will follow the same regiment of prescription medications, go from one medication to another and eventually recommend surgery. My friend has Ulcerative Colitis and the doctors wanted to remove her colon, but she avoided intestinal surgery, got off all her toxic medications and now takes a natural product, AloeElite. She is healed and is 100% well. If you go to www.aloeelite.com there is so much information about their product, and in the health and wellness section they have information on diet recommendations, stress control and it really is a holistic approach. If you call their toll free number 1-888-299-2344, they will even mail you information and a sample of their product for free. Good Luck!

To be honest, I'd look for other options. Another doctor may help, but they'd probably want to perform more tests on you and if you are against that, that may not be the right option. Have you considered alternative medicine?

I agree with Laura on AloeElite...my cousin was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis several months ago and her symptoms are almost gone after taking AloeElite...I provided their homepage and hopefully you can find more information on it and how it can help you. Good luck!

He's not MIA, he thinks the matter is resolved. He offered a treatment, you refused. Call him back and tell him you want another option- if there is one.

Weigh your choices and act.
