Symptoms are:
Constant and Extreme thirst
Frequent urination
Slow healing wounds
Dizziness
Stomach pain
Headaches
Feeling weak
Dry skin
Never getting enough sleep
Fatigue
Muscle Fatigue
Sweet smelling urine
Sweet smelling breath

If you are experiencing these symptoms, please go to the doctors. They will run a simple blood test to see if your blood sugars are high, and test you for ketones (have you pee in a cup). If you are diabetic, they will refer you to an endocrinologist, who will help you get on insulin shots and learn about carb counting, etc.
If these symptoms match, you can also buy a glucose meter and check your blood sugar. If it is high, go straight to your doctor or the ER.
Diabetes is a serious disease that cannot be messed around with.
The needles that diabetes use now and days are painless. I never feel my shots or my finger pricks.

I hope this helps!

Your question ,I suppose is about knowing that you have diabetes, not treating it .O,K, There are many accepted ways, but the simplest one is to check your fasting blood sugar. If it is between 100 and126 you aer a prediabetic .IF your fasting sugar value is greater than 126 you are an overt diabetic. In the first case you have to modify your lifestyle, and inthe later case you ave to ta ke drugs also.

The symptoms, like increased thirst and frequent urination, aren't proof positive. What's more, those symptoms really only occur when blood sugar is very high. You can be diabetic without dangerously high levels.

The only way to know for sure is to test your blood sugar. Obviously, a doctor's office and a laboratory have better equipment and are less prone to user error, but you can buy a home glucose meter and test yourself. Wal-Mart also sells a Reli-On Home A1c test - you prick your finger and bleed onto a piece of paper, and then send it to a lab where you're emailed your A1c within a week or two. An A1c is a three-month average of your blood sugar in the form of a percent (the amount of sugar on your hemoglobin, without getting too complicated).

There's no way of knowing for sure without blood tests, my friend, and the ONLY person allowed to diagnose diabetes mellitus is a practising medical doctor ... at least in the United States where your question was asked.
