Question: What is the proper procedure to drain a staph infection from the labia?

The doctor might be impatient with any type of person who won't accept what he thinks needs to be done. I've seen doctors like that and even though they might be smart enough, they are difficult to be comfortable with. As has been said, the infection you have is VERY SERIOUS. He should have given you lots more instructions that just to take those pills. You've got to wash your hands thoroughly with lots of soap and very warm water before and after checking the area, and using the restroom. If you touch that area at all, you can spread that infection to any other part of your body or anyone else's very easily. I know this because my daughter just had a staph infection on her leg and it spread all up and down her leg. Then she didn't take all her pills and it came back. When I took her to the doctor again, (he's a very good, sweet doctor), he said to her, "Do you want to keep your leg?" Staph infections are very serious. I think the doctor should have given you some heavy duty antibiotic ointment to put on the spot several times a day. We were told to take a chlorine bath a couple of times a week to get rid of the staph, (because I now have it from touching something she touched--probably the keyboard). The doctor said take a bath of 1/2 cup clorox in 8 inches deep of water. Staph is difficult to get rid of. Clean your bathtub out and all of your faucets and handles in your house and keyboard with clorox water. The area of your boil is very, very tender. I'm glad the nurse was more gentle and sensitive to you. You could always write a complaint to the hospital administration so that doctor can be talked to.
Get off yahoo answers and go to the ER if you're having chest pains.
1. go to a different doctor if you truly think that this one is not helping you.
2. you are either a gigantic baby and should just put up with the pain, or you should speak with your (new) doctor about pain management and work out a solution (systemic pain killers, anesthesia, hypnosis/psychological help) because that infection is VERY serious and should be eradicated immediately; especially because that is a sensitive area of your body.
3. DON'T drain it yourself if you are trying to minimize the pain (concern about spread of infection to your blood/inguinal triangle should also be a concern). Even though it may require pain management, it sounds bad and you should get professional medical treatment.
The docycyline should alleviate it (and the pain), and you should go to the doctor immediately if it is not gone after the full antibiotic regimen. DO take ALL of the pills.
4. Express breast milk after the 12 days, discard (i'd wait a whole week after taking all of the pills and making sure the infection is gone before breastfeeding).
5. Figure out what may have been the reason you got the infection in the first place; make sure you change habits or practice some kind of management of your health.
lots of school like ALL doctors
