What are these red bumps?!

Question:

What are these red bumps?

The other night when I was getting dressed for bed, I noticed what looked like a small mosquito bite on my thigh. I didn't think much about it, despite the fact that it was burning a little. I went to bed and when I woke up the next morning, both thighs, my stomach, my breasts, and upper arms all have these bumps on them. I haven't done much outside, so I know that it is not mosquito bites.

I had chicken pox twice as a child, pretty bad the second time, but this looks like chicken pox again. It may just be an allergic reaction, but it looks like chicken pox and I have had a low fever the past few days.

They are small, red, and some of them have a small dark spot in the middle. Does anyone know what this may be or how I can fix it without a trip to the doctor?

I have tried Benedryl, some prescription allergy medicine, calamine lotion, and oatmeal baths, but the itching will not stop. My mom said maybe chiggers, fleas, or poison ivy, but this doesn't look like any of that to me.

Answers:

I think it may be from one of those 'skin scrubbers' that people often use when showering, or bathing. These things grow LOTS of bacteria and since they basically stay wet in the shower, many organisms grow on the - especially Pseudomonas species. Pseudomonas is a 'water bacteria' and it can often cause skin infections like you seem to have. If you scrub yourself with ANYTHING in the shower, and hang it up, and reuse it next time, THROW it AWAY NOW.

anyway, i bet this is what the bumps are... if you must wash with something, use a washcloth ONCE, and then launder it.

Peace+
