Does pseudo-ephedrine HCL constrict (shrink) blood vessels in the nose and sinus!

Question:

Does pseudo-ephedrine HCL constrict (shrink) blood vessels in the nose and sinuses only to?

cause decongestion, or does it cause ALL blood vessels in the body to constrict?

Answers:

Pseudo-ephedrine is a decongestant which works by constricting blood vessels and reducing swelling in the sinuses. However, like all drugs it is not intelligent and cannot target an area. It produces systemic vaso-constriction which is why it should not be taken by people with high blood pressure, even if they are taking medicine to control it. The reason for this is in these people it can produce a dangerously high spike in blood pressure potentially leading to a heart attack or stroke.
