Has anyone tried clonazepam (Klonopin) for RLS?!

Question:

Has anyone tried clonazepam (Klonopin) for RLS?

It works for me but I feel like a slug for about 6 hours the next day.

Answers:

Restless leg syndrome is a movement disorder. It is a problem due to imbalance of chemical in the brain.

There are several treatment available. Recent approval of two medication - Requip and Mirapax - had revolutionized the treatment of RLS. Other medication also used including some meication for Parkingson's disease.

Klonopin had been used for treatment of RLS for years. It belongs to a class of medication called Benzodiazepine, which also includes medication such as Valium, Ativan, Xanax, Restoril, and Halcion. Klonopin is milder than the rest, but it can still cause significant sedation and sleepiness.

If the sleepiness is a major side effect, go see your doctor to have your medication changed. Remember, DWI - driving under influence - also can be from medication such as Klonopin.
