Should I request my medical record?!

Question:

Should I request my medical record?

I was recently told I was anemic and had blood/protein in my urine. I had a dipstick and blood draw done 3 years ago at my former, very unthorough GP. Would getting those results matter at all? Will the file have anything else useful (I don't remember ever having any serious problems, mostly vaccinations)? Do I have to get it in person (kinda far), or have it portions of it faxed? If so, what portions?

Answers:

Results from three years ago will not really be of any use. If there was some serious chronic condition suspected then maybe. Anemia and protein in your urine can become serious if not treated but fairly common for a woman to experience at least once in their lives. So work with what you have unless your doctor suggests differently.

From now on you should request a copy of all lab results and any other test result for your records.
