It is possible. A full screen would involve oral rectal and vaginal swabs, a urine test and blood screening.

GP for more years than I care to remember

Could be vaginitis (if you're female) or thrush or it could be just a yeast infection. But you should see your doctor and get tested. Some stds are tested through blood or urine tests. If there is any thing suspicious looking on the genitals then your doctor should take a sample of it or the discharge to test for stds. It usually takes 1-2 weeks to get your results back.

they put the clamps on like when you get a pap. use a long qtip and swab your cervix, then they send it to a lab for testing and then they get the results and share them with you.

they give you a swab and you got to the bathroom and rub it inside the vagina, then put it in a pot and hand it back

Swabs from the genital area.
You need to go to your nearest sexual health clinic ASAP. Look on the NHS website for your nearest one.

you should go to doctors immediately.
