JB's answer is excellent. When people start taking meds and start feeling better, they often think they can stop taking the meds. But as JB said, in this situation, people feel better because they are taking the meds. If they stop taking them, they will feel worse again. Continue taking your meds as prescribed, and talk to your psychiatrist about your concerns. You may eventually be able to reduce your dosage, change your meds, or stop taking them, but this should only be done with the advice and close supervision of your psychiatrist. I mean no disrespect to your parents, but they are (most likely) not medical professionals, and are not qualified to decide if you should or should not be taking meds. Your psychiatrist is qualified, and can advise you about the best course of treatment for your condition.

Since you are seeing a psychiatrist, I would assume these medications are for a mental health problem. Taking the medications is WHY you feel better. Stopping the medications will return you to the same point you were at when you started the medications in the first place. This is common with any mental health conditions - people get better with meds, want to stop the meds because they believe they can function without them and it begins a downward spiral into the lowest time where you first started and then is a very long climb back up to an even keel emotionally. Don't do this. Continue taking your medications daily as directed and as you get older, work with your psychiatrist on possibly trying to reduce the dosage slightly.

Insufficient Data. What meds? To treat what condition?
I can think of many conditions for which your family would be right. The fact you feel better doesn't always mean you are cured.
everybody thinks they're medical experts. do what you think is right.
doctors make mistakes too.
