Question: I went to the doctor 2 months ago, and they told me have PID...?
Answers:
PID = Pelvic Inflammatory Disease. At least you had a good diagnostic test. This ultrasound can rule out all sorts of issues such as, ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids, and bladder stones. Many things can cause PID (STD's left untreated for example) although in my experience if the doctor cannot find the cause of the pelvic pain and every test comes back negative they will give the diagnosis of PID. This doesn't mean that you symptoms or complaints aren't real, it just means they can't really find the source or cause of the symptoms. PID can be a cause of infertility as the reproductive organs may be slightly compromised by the disease process. For example the Fallopian tubes can become scarred and therefore infertility is a real possibility. PID diagnosis can leave the patient confused and doubtful of their symptoms, but it's a true and real diagnosis. There is just not much you can do about it at this point. Follow up with your OBGYN and have them offer other treament sources for you. Good luck.

A transvaginal ultrasound can identify polyps, fibroids, the shape of your fallopian tubes. It cannot determine infertility but can possibly identify causes that might cause infertility. PID comes and goes with intermittent flare-ups. If you have been diagnosed with this condition, you need to become very knowledgeable about your condition so that you can be able to care for yourself as well as possible with this condition. You can go to WebMd.com and type in pelvic inflammatory disease and read up on this condition. Your doctor will tell you whether they find anything abnormal when you have this test. Even with PID, there may be nothing abnormal present on this ultrasound which is always a possibility.
