Ganglion removal under local anesthetic?!

Question:

Ganglion removal under local anesthetic?

i have been told today i have to have surgery on ganglion on wrist, my consultant said that is is done with a local, i am soooo scared as last local i had didn't work and felt everything, can i opt for general, do i have the choice? i am in uk by the way? anyone else had it done under local? what's it like and is it in a cast afterwards?

Answers:

A ganglion is just like knot composed of a bunch of nerves. My son had the same surgery while in the Air Force. He said it was great, and watched the whole thing. It's more painful to keep the ganglion than to have it out. The initial needle of anesthesia will be the only one you feel and it's just like a pin prick. I had a smell tumor removed from my thigh with local and I never felt a thing. Don't be scared. All will be great for you and you will be glad you had it done. OK? Good luck to you.
