Can people with celiac's absorb vitamins orally they are deficient on?!

Question:

Can people with celiac's absorb vitamins orally they are deficient on?

I already take B12 injections and am wondering if the vitamin D I take needs to be given by injection

Answers:

You should have no problem absorbing vitamins as long as you are diagnsoed and are following the gluten free diet. THe problem with nutrient absorbtion is when a person has untreated celiac and the damage to the intestines is so severe, they cannot absorb any nutrients, minerals or vitamins (thus the malnutrition, risk of osteoporosis, etc.)
As long as you are on a gluten free diet (as you should be if you've been dx with Celiac.) you should be fine. If this is new, it can take weeks, even months or years for the body to heal. It seems the older you are the harder to heal (bc more time has gone on for damage to be done.)
Good luck but make sure all meds u take are GF. Even injections. Go to www.glutenfreedrugs.com to find out some. Your pharmacist should know u have Celiac and need Gluten Free meds. Not all are.
Best of luck, AMy
