Can a Hiatal Hernia turn into cancer?!

Question: Can a Hiatal Hernia turn into cancer?
Hi I found out I had a hiatal hernia about 6 years ago. I have always had problems with it like waking up in the middle of the night choking and really bad heartburn. For the past couple of weeks I have not been able to eat anything due to the horriable check pain I get as soon as I swallow food. It is the worst pain EVER and soon after my back will start hurting. Sometimes I dont even have to eat in order to get the chest pain. Could this be something serious like a tumor or something? Any advise or anyone that has experienced this would be very helpful!

You have GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) or Barret's esophagus (It's where lining of the esophagus is destroyed due to excessive acid. You need to be PPIs (proton pump inhibitors) and you need to see your family doctor for this.

People with severe reflux, which is not treated are at higher risk of developing cancer..esophageal to be more specific. Please see your doctor.

You may have an ulcer. You definitely need to get checked out by a doctor. It's possible for ulcers to bleed, so you want to see a doctor soon! It could also be a problem with your hernia. Don't be scared about it being cancer yet as there are a few other things it could most certainly be. If possible, take some over the counter acid reducers until you can get to your doctor and see if they help. But, make an appointment with your doc as soon as possible.

I have been living with a hiatal hernia since 1978. Fortunately, I am almost symptom free. I raised the head of my bed about three inches. It keeps stomach acid from flowing back to the esophagus. I diet, eating small meals four or five times a day. I always quit eating at least four hours before going to bed. I get plenty of rest. Several of my family members have similar problems. They have varying degrees of success in dealing with it.

I think you should see a doctor, get a thorough exam, get everything checked out. Stomach acid can lead to cancer of the esophagus.

Long standing hiatal hernia which is always associated with acid reflux in esophagus,it leads to constant mucosal trauma and changes.
A Barrett,s esophagus is precancerous and your symptoms are suggestive.
Best course is to get evaluated by Upper GI scopy and Bx,if needed.
You need aggressive therapy and life style changes as DOC advises.

Call the public health department and ask about free or low cost clinics. Also you can apply at the hospital for financial help with a trip to the hospital.

I would put this on your priority list of things to be fixed.

I doubt it and I have a hiatal hernia also
