How do I have high prolactin levels if I have no pituitary gland?!

Question: How do I have high prolactin levels if I have no pituitary gland?
I have a lot of health issues (I won't get into them all), caused by the fact that I was born without a pituitary gland. I go to an endocrinologist every 4 months and I'm on a lot of synthetic hormones. My doctor is always checking a lot of hormone levels in my blood, and one hormone that has always been high and he always monitors is prolactin. But how is it that I have high prolactin levels if I don't have a pituitary, since prolactin is a pituitary hormone?

You may have an ectopic site of prolactin production. Has this possibility been discussed with you?

GP for more years than I care to remember

Im assuming you were born with septal agenesis and/or septo optic dysplasia and im also guessing that prolactin would be one of the hormonal supplements that your doctor would give you. So maybe your doctor gave you too much prolactin? If u dont take prolactin supplements then you may have pituitary hypoplasia, which means most of your pituitary is gone but not all of it, so u could be secreting some of your hormones by yourself. If thats not the case either then you should point it out to your doctor, so more research can be done to see were all that prolactin is coming from.

you should go to doctor immediately.
