Are we talking with a meter at home, or at the doctor's office? At the doctor's office it hurts for about a minute, but it goes away. With a meter at home, you can't even feel it. I prick my fingers all the time, and I never feel it.
At first, yes. Eventually you develop callouses and get used to the pain. A lancet (finger pricker) has settings - usually 1 through 5. Start on one of the lower settings, like a 1 or a 2, and only increase it if you can't get enough blood for the meter.
I don't know what to compare the pain to - worse than a paper cut, at least at first, because you don't really feel that until you start moving your finger around. The sting goes away a lot faster than a paper cut. Imagine just stabbing your finger quickly (and not too deeply) with a pin. That's all it is.
It really doesn't hurt at all as long as you don't set the lancet too deep. Start at 1 or 2 or it might actually hurt. You MIGHT feel the quick poke, but you may not. I never feel it except on the rare occasions when I hit a nerve.
I don't think it hurts at all. It is similar to a paper cut. quick and easy, and then the pain is over.
its like a quick "ouch!" then the pain is gone.
it only hurts until you build up calluses though...ive been doing it since 93 and it doesnt hurt anymore.
It stings a little -- not as much as a bee sting -- at first, but it goes away pretty quickly.
it dosn't. Just a little prick and forget about it.
