Does skin cancer have to be a mole?!

Question: Does skin cancer have to be a mole?
I have a weird mark on my thigh and i've just noticed it the past couple months. Its a raised pink circle with a darker red ring around it and feels rough, like dry skin. It also peels sometimes, like dry skin but it wont go away!

What could it be? I'm in my early 20's and I have only been tanning a few times. I doubt its cancer, but I just want to be safe. Any advice?

Answers:

It is not nothing but that does not mean it has to be skin cancer. Actually it sounds more like ringworm to me - which is a fungal infection - nothing to do with worms at all. Buy some fungicidal ointment and see how it goes!

This would more than likely be a skin problem of some sort, not skin cancer. You can go to WebMd.com and type in skin rashes and look at all the pictures and find one that matches closely and that is probably what you have. Treatment of this would depend on what the cause of the lesion might be - eczema, seborrhea keratitis, etc. Of course it would be common sense to have your doctor look at it. Most skin cancers are not dry, scaly.

Better safe than sorry. Is the bump irregularly shaped? Go see a dermatologist, if you catch a malignant cell early it can seriously save your life, if it's benign still good. go get it checked out they wont think your crazy
