Question: What would be an interesting pathogenic disease to present to my Microbiology class?
I'm a student that has to write a 10-15 page paper and give a 10 minute presentation on a pathogenic disease. I don't want to do it on something everyone has heard of before (like AIDS), and I don't want to do it on something depressing (like muscular dystrophy) or sick (like gonorrhea). I was thinking like something more along the lines of Kuru, a disease that you get by eating other people's brains. Do you know of any other interesting pathogenic diseases?

Toxoplasma gondii is a parasite found in cat feces that can cause congenital deafness when the babies mother breathes it while she's pregnant. They also think it may cause schizophrenia so there is a good deal of current research on the topic. Good luck ;)
