Please tell me what to expect...have I got womb cancer?!

Question: Please tell me what to expect...have I got womb cancer?
I am 50. Having not had a period for eight months. I then I had what appeared to be a normal period, but it lasted around 11 days. The doctor's internal examination said I had an enlarged uterus, and I was refered for an ulta-sound. This showed no evidence of fibroids, but the womb lining was definately more enlarged than it should have been at my age I also have a "puckering" to the womb lining. The lady doing the ultra-sound was surprised I did not have a blood test, but when I asked if I had cancer, she just told me I had to contact my GP, which I cannot do for a week until the results of the scan have been forwarded. I have pain to my lower back, but I usually only feel it if I am in an easy chair. So I have a week of waiting. I am very aware that it may be cancer, and that womb cancer is easy to treat, but would love to know what to expect, so please be honest

Answers:

If the radiologist saw cancer on the ultrasound he or she would have called the ordering physician, not simply mail the report.
75% of uterine cancers are diagnosed at stage 1-1C with a 5 year survival rate of 75-95%.
If it is cancer you can expect blood work up, a few scans and a hysterectomy.
Chemo is only used in a couple of types of uterine cancer when it is an early stage.

I am a cancer registrar.

Even though i don't know you, i feel very compassionate. I know nothing about womb cancer, and i wish you good luck with treatment etc. Hope you get better.

You need to consult O&G doc ,you may need D&C and curetted tissue will be biopsied to know the cause.

Your 50. Welcome to menopause.

My partners cancer is ovarian rather than uterine, but if it turns out to be cancer, then the usual process would be for a course of chemotherapy to reduce the initial tumour, then surgery to remove the cancer or the entire womb if necessary, then a further course of chemotherapy to kill any cancer cells that were not removed with the surgery.
Chemotherapy is not fun, depending on what therapy is approved it will make you feel very unwell for a period of some months, it is after all basically Poison, the intention to give you enough poison to kill the cells without actually killing you.
Abdominal surgery is major surgery, if they cannot do a lumpectomy using keyhole techniques you are looking at a general, and a week to recover.
This may all sound daunting but lets face it it is better than letting the cancer win. Good luck.
