I'm being sent for a psychiatric assessment, what will that involve?!

Question:

I'm being sent for a psychiatric assessment, what will that involve?

I take a variety of medication for various illnesses and after seeing three specialists I'm being sent for psychiatric assessment. I'm not sure what to expect, has anyone had one and what happened during and after?

Answers:

Don't worry, Peta, because an assessment is nothing more than a medical examination with words instead of medical instruments, although a medical is sometimes involved because some symptoms of illness can be caused by physical dysfunctions such as an overactive thyroid which can make a person quite poorly. The assessment will tell the doctor what kind of illness you are suffering from and then they might give you medication to help you out until you get better but I do object to the use of valium because they are highly addictive and you will have problems if you get hooked.
Try not to worry because you will quite all right and I am sure you will eventually get better. Good luck.
