Transplantation for transsexuals?!
Question:
Transplantation for transsexuals?
like kidney and heart transplantations, can it be possible to have larynx (voice box) transplanted or something?
Answers:
No, it isn't possible; neither is it necessary.
The larynx is a complex and delicate structure; even if it were possible to transplant one, the essential nerve supplies would never recover, so it wouldn't function normally, if at all.
It isn't necessary because ANY larynx can be retrained; the difference between male pitch and female pitch isn't nearly as great as some people imagine, and everyone has a considerable overlap naturally. Speech therapy can, and does, retrain testosterone-poisoned larynxes to sound female, completely and naturally.
And in case anyone is wondering; hormone therapy has NO effect on the larynxes of transsexual women; transsexual men, are luckier in that regard, since testosterone deepens their voices to a perfect male pitch.
