Why is my foreskin extremely itchy?

For the past few days my foreskin has been very itchy and slightly red (inflamed). It's so bad that it even woke me up early today. My first fear was a fungal (yeast) infection, but those suspicions were ruled out because I don't have any other symptoms (such as the painful urination). I don't have any burning sensation at all times, only the itching. I also don't believe that I have a yeast infection because I asked my girlfriend if she noticed anything unusual with her vagina, such as itching. She does not have a yeast infection, nor any STDs which would cause said itching. If I do not have either of those, what other possibilities are there? What is the best way to get rid of the itching? Salty water has helped eliminate the itchy symptoms, but they still end up coming back after a while.

NOTE: I do not have any type of fungal infection such as trush or yeast infection (they are in fact the SAME thing). I regularly have sexual intercourse with my girlfriend and she has not had any problems at all... no yeast, no STDs, no itching, no burning, nothing. I will try washing it several times a day and dipping in a salt solution several times a day.

Also, I do not have a buildup of smegma (cottage cheese looking material) commonly associated with yeast. There is also no discharge, and no strange smell. The head of the penis looks clean when I pull back the foreskin, even though it hurts to pull it back due to the inflammation.
