is this even possible? (read)?!

Question: Is this even possible? (read)?
Okay, I use to live in this small town (Heber Springs, AR)....Occasionally visit the lake there. (Greers Ferry Lake). Well, My friend, has neck cancer and loved to dive in the lake. Her husband had liver cancer and loved the lake as well. My grandmother went to help the friend for a few days and she went to the hospital to get her chemo therapy with her and there were like a bunch of people getting there chemo done. The populatuion of this town is like 6000. I dove in to the lake a bunch as a kid...now i am 13 and i dove in alot when we went on vacation and now i am scared i will get cancer. Is it possible this lake causes cancer or something?

Answers:

it is possible. have you heard of Erin Brockovich? contact your local news about testing the water? that is always an idea. a company contaminated ground water in California with hexavalent chromium, which caused a lot of cancers and other health issues. she exposed it. anything is possible.

Read the book: A Civil Action, by Jonathan Harr. It is about a true lawsuit over a cancer cluster caused by polluted and poisoned water.

The book is quite good; in fact it is one of my favorites.

It will answer every question you have about cancer caused by water pollution.

It is a legal thriller, page turner, an action packed book.

Anyway, you can get screened for certain cancers, but only if there are any symptoms of this cancer. Talk to your doctor, they can and will help you by checking for certain cancers.

People could very well be coming from other small towns to have their chemo, as not every small town has an onco unit. Your grandma wouldn't see a bunch, if anyone having chemo. She probably saw people in the waiting area to be seen for variuos reasons. So, two cancers in one town does not a cluster make. Assuming the friend is in the age range of your grandma, we are more prone to cancer as we age. You're 13 and have elderly friends??

Well, these are different types of cancers, but I guess it's a possibitly. I'm not a scientist, i wouldn't know. But maybe the lake is polluted or contains something.
