Chronic kidney disease (CKD) can be the long term consequence of irreversible acute disease or part of a disease progression.
There is no cure for chronic kidney disease but treatment can help control signs and symptoms, reduce complications, and slow the progress of the disease. If your kidneys become severely damaged, you may need treatments for end-stage kidney disease.
Untreated, it usually progresses to end-stage renal disease. Lifelong treatment may control the symptoms of chronic kidney disease.
