From what I have read it takes at least two to three weeks after the last injections for the full benefits pretty much kick in.
Please remember that Gardasil only prevents 4 HPV type. HPV type 6 1n 11 that cause 90% of all visible genital warts and HPV types 16 and 18 that are found in 70% of all cervical cancers. The vaccine does not prevent the other 36 genital HPV types. You can still acquire the virus even after receiving the 3 injections.
Your boyfriend was probably diagnosed with genital warts and the vaccine may help prevent the two HPV types that cause external genital warts but they are other HPV types that can cause genital warts.
It is great that you are getting the vaccine and I hope that you never see a genital wart.
There are over 40 Types of HPV, and 15 of them have been linked to cervical cancer and/or genital warts. Gardasil has been developed to vaccinate against the 4 Types that have the highest correlation with cancer and genital warts.
