Have you or a relative battled cancer? How did you/family deal with it?!

Question:

Have you or a relative battled cancer? How did you/family deal with it?

The doctors just found a small breast cancer tumor and I just wanted to hear other people's stories. The doctor said that it's not life threatning at all, but it needs to be removed as soon as possible; she will be receiving surgery for the removal in about a week or so.

Tell me your stories if you would like,
Thanks

I forgot to mention that I was talking about my mom...hasn't hit me yet, but I know that I will become a bit sad; I'll stay strong, I hope.

Answers:

I was diagnosed with breast cancer three years ago. I was told after having a lumpectomy that it was a large very agressive tumour. I have had chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Don't be over alarmed over this. I was scared for about an hour and then I got angry and determined to beat it. My family were very supportive and no-one got downbeat about it. I have had two mammographies since and everything is clear. It is as important for the family to stay positive as it is for the patient. Your support will get your mother through this, don't be sad, be positive. I decided that even if the news was bad I was not going to be depressed. I enjoy life and want to make the most of it. Being diagnosed with cancer does not mean the end of life. Sometimes it can be a wakeup call to go out and have a great time. Be positive, your mother seems to have a great prognosis.
