Should my skin be getting worse after starting antibiotics for acne?!

Question: Should my skin be getting worse after starting antibiotics for acne?
I started Erythomychin topical gel on January 5th 2011. About a week ago I saw a few improvements after using it for a month but this week, I noticed more acne starting to come. I wash my face twice a day and use the antibiotics as directed but it seems like nothing is really improving.
I'm only 18 and during high school I had almost no acne. I'm not stressed, and I don't touch my face with my hands.
Should I go to my doctor and ask for a stronger product? Or continue to us it.

Yes you might be much better with oral antibiotics. . Avoid tetracycline and oxytetracyline as they are awkward to take and not very effective, minocycline or lymecycline are better.

GP for more years than I care to remember

Yes, your acne gets worse before it will get better. The antibiotic is pulling out all of the dirt and oil right now - once it's done doing that your face should start to get better.

Hi,

Truly, spend a little time to research the reasons for acne and you will find the over the counter treatments are an incomplete solution and will keep you addicted to buying their products for only minimal results.

I had terrible acne from 12-15 & tried the commercial approach...clearasil, neutrogena etc. Spent heaps of $$$ trying to find something that works... Nothing worked consistently, until I went to the doctor for antibiotics... at age 16. There was a noticeable improvement but the side effects were annoying and as soon as i stopped the pills they came back.

So, the Dermatologist put me on Accutane - Bad news terrible side effect, significant improvement, but the side effects really stuffed me up (Joint pain, dry skin, cracked lips etc - then Major Depression).

After that I have only gone after Natural solutions... Best results by far and the only side effects... Healthier all round!!!

The Doctors & Dermatologist didn't talk at all to me about diet or skin care techniques & routines.
All they do is what they are trained to do, write scripts for drugs

I went looking for a Natural approach and found Acne No More.

They outlined an excellent skin routine and diet in their system. They also have a brilliant email counselling service for support. They really know what they are doing to help anyone cure acne completely.

But whatever approach you end up taking, please think about the long term effects on your health. Drugs & chemicals are always a gamble with how much bad side-effects you will suffer from.

More food for thought:
“The pharmaceutical industry has moved very far from its original high purpose of discovering and producing useful new drugs. Now primarily a marketing machine to sell drugs of dubious benefit, this industry uses its wealth and power to co-opt every institution that might stand in its way, including the US Congress, the FDA, academic medical centers, and the medical profession itself.” - Dr Marcia Angell, former editor in chief of The New England Journal of Medicine.

Just spend some time on research and you will come out ahead in terms of $$$ and results
