For anyone who knows anything about radiology/x-rays, PLEASE HELP PUT MY MIND AT!

Question:

For anyone who knows anything about radiology/x-rays, PLEASE HELP PUT MY MIND AT EASE?

Ok, so i had a regular x-ray done on my finger due to a mass that has been growing for several months now. the radiologist said that the xray just showed swelling, so is there any possibility that it could be a type of soft tissue sarcoma? ive heard that xrays dont always show soft tissue tumors as cancer.

i was told the mass was a tendon sheath tumor, but i have heard that soft tissue sarcomas are commonly misdiagnosed, and i looked up Myxoinflammatory fibroblastic sarcomas, and they are commonly misdiagnosed as what i was told i may have....

Answers:

X-rays are designed to look at bones because they are dense and the X-rays can't penetrate them so they show up clearly on film. Soft tissue is less dense so is paler to spot but swelling can be seen as the outlines will be bigger than usual. Some cancers can be clearly seen on x-rays as they are masses of tissues which don't normally occur so the radiologist will see something which shouldn't be there. Swelling doesn't sound like a cancerous tissue mass, if they are concerned about the swelling they will take a sample and test it. If they used the word swelling they weren't talking about a growth, it doesn't sound like it's anything to worry about.
