Question:

Just been diagnosed with Hemiplegic Migraines (SHM), any advice?

Hi everyone,

I have just been diagnosed with Hemiplegic Migraines (SHM not FHM). Just wondering if anyone has any advice from experience, I had my first attack over weekend and I was admitted to hospital as all the painkillers (over the counter) i had been taking thinking it was a normal migraine caused to the vomit blood. GP told me what is was and just wondering if anyone as any advice.

Thanks,

Ben :p

Answers:

HI Ben, i also suffer with hemiplegic migraines, i was diagnosed with them last year. I am now on topirimate which is sometimes called topamax. That has been proven to give excellent results and it has reduced my migraines from weekly to monthly. Stress does play a huge part in the onset of the migraines and my neurologists have also told me to avoid the following foods, chocolate, cheese, nuts, wine, white bread, caffeine and to drink at least 3 litres of water a day. It has worked for me, so maybe worth a try??
