How much asbestos do you need to be exposed to to cause problems.?!


Question: How much asbestos do you need to be exposed to to cause problems.?
if you go into a building where the asbestos is exposed, but you dont touch it. will that still cause probelms. i know its an airborne thing, but if im just NEAR it, will it harm me? the buidling was built around the 1950s or 1960s maybe 1970s?!

how much of it can harm me. i might be in there for a couple of hours for a few days, and the walls are opened up to exposed asbestos(?) im really not sure if it is asbestos? how can i tell?!

The answer is that we do not know the lower limit. Science can just not do that experiment since everyone's DNA is different, it is hard to expose people at low levels, and there are too many factors. First, remember asbestos is natural and it is in the air you are breathing now. Second, all the studies are based on people working directly with it at high exposures for long periods. What we do know is that people with minor exposures as you describe are less likely to get asbestos harm that they are likely to be struck by lightening. So there can never be zero risk, but it is very, very, very small.
