Colostomy Reversal Operation?!

Question: Colostomy Reversal Operation?
Hello, hope someone can help me and put me a little as ease.

I m booked in to have a colostomy reversal operation this Thursday. and am feeling a little nervous about it.

The colostomy operation before in Oct was 4 hours long, and I was quite poorly. But I have been in good health since, so I am hoping this will make this operation easier? I am in to have my Stoma reversed.

I also went to a friends birthday at the weekend, and had just over a bottle of wine to drink. I know its going to be out of my system well before Thursday but am a little worried and think I should not have done that.

I am 38, so relativley young, I dont smoke, have a few glasses of wine within the week, walk about an hour a day 4 times a week, and am healthy so I know I shouldnt worry, but I guess we all do.

And it is an elective operation not an emergency one.

So why cant I stop feeling nervous about it?

Thanks.

I'm 58, a doctor, and just had shoulder surgery 2 days ago.
I know about medicine, but I was still scared.
Yours is a normal human emotion.
You will be happy to have your colostomy reversed.
I'll be happy to have my rotator cuff work again.
The wine you drank in excess several days before surgery
should not be not a concern.

You are feeling nervous because you are human.

I know rationality doesn't always beat feelings, but you might like to hold on to the thoughts that

1) The operation you originally had was much more complicated, that's why they had to make a stoma in the first place.

2) The operation you are going to have now is a very simple one.

3) The wine you had does not influence the outcome of the operation you are going to have.

This is very normal for patient before surgery.
You are physically fit and must think positively that you are going to get rid of colostomy and will have natural evacuation.
Leave your worry and get it done.

Is it an elective you have the right to decide when do you want to have it done, is your body and you have power, don't stress out! calm down and do it when is convenient for you. Smile! Jesus loves you!

This is a lesser procedure which usually goes smoothly. Chat to your surgeon who should be able to reassure you further.
