I'm pregnant with celiac's?!

Question:

I'm pregnant with celiac's?

I haven't been eating gluten-free and am 9 weeks pregnant......does this mean something bad will happen? I am going to start eating right from now on .....tell me if this will save the pregnancy from any problems....thank you all!

Answers:

Breathe!!! yes it is highly likely, beginnign gluten free will certainly make your baby healthier, and you will feel better. I was in your exact situation 2 years ago! I was diagnosed with Celiac ONE MONTH before becoming pregnant (i believe it was the going Gluten Free that helped me conceive, as we'd been trying for months.) So I knew NOTHING about Celiac and was lost! Once mornign sickness kicked in, I chose crackers over puking!! So I cheated quite a bit during the pregnancy and thank God my son was born ok, no problems. But I was lucky! Untreated Celiac can lead to low birth weight babies and other problems in you and the baby. (Remember hte infamous House episode?? Scary!!)

BUt never fear!! Many women go through pregnancy with Celiac and if u stay gluten free your baby will be healthier for it! I too am pregnant (10 weeks today---we must be due around the same time!! LOL!!! U should go to www.babycenter.com and clicko n the January birth clubs and join the LIttle Snowdrops club for women due around the week fo 1/22!)

There are good GF crackers available. I like Glutino "ritz style" crackers (it says that on the www.glutenfree.com website) Ener-G also makes a pretty good cracker.

Ginger and Vitamin B help with nausea.

Remember that as u go on in your preg that any meds u take are GF and remember to have them put it inyour chart at the hospital so u get GF meds and GF food (took them 2 days to get my GF food right when I had my first child!!)

PLEASE feel free to email me preggy or Celiac support!!! There is help out there!!
:) Amy
