Don't know the scientific name of it. Black mold can be found anywhere moisure and air meet. It becomes a serious health issue if not cleaned up or left alone for a long period of time. It is present in your home now - look in the corners of the bath/shower stall. Spraying bleach or bath cleaner on it and wiping it off is pretty much all you have to do. There are different types of black mold, but for the average person, a little cleaning will keep it all in check.
Every few years the building and housing industry needs a new "problem" to deal with that gets blown way out of proportion, like radon gas or lead paint. Black mold is one of them. Not that it can become an issue, but for the most part you can take care of it yourself.
