worried about a lump in my neck?!

Question: Worried about a lump in my neck?
A little worried about a small lump in my neck?
Hi everyone, Id just like to start by saying im a 23 year old male who is sometimes a worrier over his health! Well about 2 weeks ago I had an ear infection which the pain radiated from my ear down my neck, when I felt my neck I found a small pea sized lump, this got me worried, I went to the doctors was prescribed antibiotics and finnished them yesterday, the ear infection has cleared but the lump has still remained, I wouldnt say it has gotten any bigger, but the fact that this little lump is still around is starting to worry me. I am booked in to see a doctor tomorrow to have it checked out to give me piece at mind, I did the worst ever thing and googled it, it came up with all sorts of information relating to cancer, which only adds more worry! I heard it could be a lynph node, my dad has one on his neck which his had for years, and my 6 month old son has one the back of his neck which he had checked out and they said dont worry about it, could this be passed down the family? I know im seing a doctor tomorrow and some people will say just wait until then for an answer, but its nice to know if someone can shed a little light on this before I go.

Thankyou for taking the time to read this and reply.

It is just infective lymphnode enlargement secondary to ear infection.
You will need to take extended course of antibiotics,as you are going to DOC. he will confirm.
Relax and get rid of cancer phobia.

It sounds like a gland that's become inflamed by whatever caused the ear infection. The antibiotics will have got rid of the infection, but it will take a few weeks for the gland to return to its normal size. That's not where lymph nodes are - but we all have lymph nodes.

Let your doctor have a look at it, but the chances of it being anything serious are pretty remote.

I've had that for years. You lymph nodes can swell whenever you have an infection, and sometimes they just never go down. I used to have a golf-ball sized lump in my neck. By now, it's still detectable by pushing in where the spot is and feeling a lump, but eventually mine went down. Sometimes they do go down, sometimes no. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

possibility of a knot, do you ever get neck ache?

"The phenomenon of muscle knots is not uncommon. Essentially, muscle knots are sections within the various muscles of the body that have constricted and create pain that is consistent. The condition is common enough to merit the application of a scientific name, which is myofascial trigger points"

i have about 3, a physiotherapist told me there harmless,

It is probably just a swollen lymph-node caused by the ear infection. I had one, it can take months to disappear but it is nothing to worry about.
