Is it normal to get sick from a meningitis shot?!

Question:

Is it normal to get sick from a meningitis shot?

Answers:

I had a meningitis shot a couple years ago and don't recall getting sick from it. Almost always when I get shots my arm swells a little (normal because all your white blood cells are rushing to the area of "invasion"), but I didn't have an internal reaction like throwing up or anything from it.
___________

It appears that side effects other than swelling from the vaccine are extremely rare, and the most common in about 2 percent of people is just plain old fever:

"What are the possible side effects of the vaccine?

The vaccine is considered relatively free of side effects and is generally effective for three-five years. Minor reactions may include redness and swelling at the injection site that may last one to two days. About 2 percent of recipients may develop fever after vaccination. If you develop a high or persistent fever, consult a physician. Extremely rare allergic reactions have occurred, including those resulting in hives, asthma, and even anaphylaxis. As with any vaccine, vaccination with meningitis vaccine does not protect 100 percent of all susceptible individuals" (http://health.luther.edu/health_and_well... ).

This site (http://www.healthunit.org/immunization/f... ) adds that side effects can include ...

"- Redness, soreness, and swelling at the injection site.
- Other reactions may include fever, headache, nausea, dizziness, fatigue, joint pain, and rashes and should subside in one to two days.
- Allergic reactions like hives, wheezing, swelling of the face and mouth are extremely rare. However, if these symptoms occur, seek medical attention immediately."

Other websites note, however, that the meningitis vaccine has had a "marvellous" record, causing very few troublesome side effects.
