what's happening to my skin?!

Question: What's happening to my skin?
i got myself a henna temporary tatoo, more than a week ahas passed since then and the henna is almost gone, i noticed my skin developed a few tiny small red lumps where the henna is, its a little itchy. what is it? how do i get rid of it?

Answers:

This sounds very much like an allergic reaction...

It could be PPD, but usually those reactions are worse than a few tiny red bumps that are "a little itchy"...they look like awful burns. If your "henna tattoo" was not the orange/brown henna color that darkened over time but rather black or VERY dark brown almost immediately... then it is likely this is PPD. Go to a doctor.

If you're sure it was henna, chances are you are allergic to one of the other ingredients. If the henna was applied by a professional henna artist using safe and natural henna, here are some things that are likely to be in their paste - you could be allergic to any of them:

-lemon juice (the most likely cause of allergies to natural henna paste in my experience)

-other citrus ingredients (essential oils, juices, etc)

-essential oils known as terps like lavender, eucalyptus, cajeput, or tea tree

-clove tea (clove can cause some pretty bad allergies...but because of this, not too many artists use it in their professional henna paste mix)

....also, some people put black walnut powder into henna paste...which is very allergenic. hopefully no professional artist used this on you.

If the paste or stain was black, get your *** to a dermatologist, now, and tell them you may have been exposed to PPD.

If it was pure henna, the stain was brown, and there are no other symptoms, it's likely you're reacting to something that was in the paste, however delayed. Check the ingredients list, and see a doc if it doesn't clear up soon.

Most likely an allergic reaction. Give it some time - use Benedryl if it itches. If it continues to provide you with discomfort, you should see a doctor.

go to the doc ...
